A while ago I was working with a client, Sally, who said that she desperately wanted to let go of an excess 20 pounds she had been carrying around for quite a while. She went on many different diets and even started to do some moderate exercise. But a strange thing kept happening and that’s when she came in for Hypnotherapy.
Every time Sally began to actually lose weight and feel that she was making progress, she lost her motivation and found herself drifting into the old thinking and habits and would simply gain the weight back – and sometimes even more.

As Sally continued to suppress her bad feelings towards him and refused to even acknowledge the incident any longer, she began to put on weight slowly, but surely – to the great dismay of her husband.
Sally was expressing herself through her eating and punishing her husband with the added pounds!
Eating and weight gain served as a place to feel her negative emotions, as well as divert her from what was really the matter – and Sally had no idea that she was doing this!
Once the reality of this subconscious secret benefit was exposed and Sally began to openly discuss the issues with her husband, her eating habits changed, and the weight disappeared on its own. Through Hypnotherapy she overcame her resistance to change on the subconscious level and could easily let go of the pounds.
What we often don’t realize is that our hidden subconscious is a much more powerful force than our conscious – and it has its own agenda. We may think we want to make a change in our lives, but our subconscious is quite comfortable and familiar with the status quo and resists these changes in the most dramatic ways.
We must realize then, that when we change our minds, we change our lives.
